The Children’s Advocacy Center provides an array of services to child victims of physical and sexual abuse and their families in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties.
- Our Forensic Assessment Program assists in the investigations of alleged child abuse cases—while minimizing the re-traumatization of the child. Our specially trained licensed forensic evaluators assess children’s emotional, safety, and treatment needs while meeting the legal and investigative needs of law enforcement, child protective services, and prosecutors. In a child-friendly manner, forensic evaluators gather information such as the time and location of the abuse, types of abuse, exposure to pornography, identifying information about the offender(s), other possible victims, etc. Interviews are conducted and recorded in a specially designed, safe, comfortable room.
- The Medical Exam evaluates children’s health/treatment needs and secures medical evidence. These exams are conducted on-site in our cheerfully decorated child-friendly medical room by a specially trained pediatrician.
- In collaborative Multi-disciplinary Team staffings, the CAC meets with law enforcement, Department of Social Services and others to help abused children and their families. This multidisciplinary teamwork and streamlining of communication results in more accurate assessment, better intervention, reduced duplication of services, and improved quality of services to children—keeping child abuse cases from “falling through the cracks.”
- Because sexual and physical abuse can have lifelong consequences to children’s physical and mental wellbeing, we provide evidence-based mental health Therapy to child abuse victims. Our seasoned therapists have a wealth of experience and training. Most importantly, they are passionate about their work and compassionate toward children who have been abused.
